Ridinghouse Editions was founded in May 1995 with the intention of providing a unique form of exhibition space in London. We invite an artist to produce something especially for the space. Ridinghouse Editions do not represent artists but rather give them a chance to produce something extraordinary, something that they would not have the opportunity to produce within the confines of the traditional gallery system. For instance, both Dinos and Jake Chapman and Abigail Lane (known primarily as sculptors) made their first films at Ridinghouse. Similarly Peter Doig and Ian Davenport both showed series of paintings that demonstrated very unusual and exciting new directions in their working methods. This could not have been done without the independent nature of Ridinghouse. We continue to publish editions and have recently launched a book by Michael Craig-Mertin and we are planning to release a book on the performance artist and designer Leigh Bowery and also with Vanessa Beecroft later this year.
