THE TEATRE BOSQUÉ
When I first caught a glimpse of this sculpture, sticking up through the greenery in the barock garden of Drottningholm in Stockholm, I thought it indicated the entrance to an old maze. Paths went in several directions to and from the sculpture, cutting through bushes high enough to hide where the other paths were leading. Confusing and impossible to understand, until I discovered it was all symmetrical and had a regular structure.
I later learned that an open field in the middle was designed as a theatre stage and the bushes with all the pahts were the set-piece, used by actors to make a sudden appearances on stage. I had entered through the former backstage door.
