Unique experiences from projects combining art and technology. That is the issue which these interviews deal with. Together they reflect experiences which span almost 40 years, from the early 60's onwards. But there's where most of the similarities end. The very different points of view become evident. Not so much due to the differences in time and space as to those of the individual approaches. In one extreme, we have the by now legendary engineer Billy Klüver drawing a sharp line between the roles of the artist and the technician; in the other we have professor Sandy Stone, whose career has been built around making the merger between these two categories manifest. There´s also an interview with the artist Marko Peljhan, trying out everything from amateur-radio to Internet on his audience. In addition to the interviews you'll find Rebekah J. Kowal's text on Robert Rauschenberg's Mud Muse created in the early 70's, and Raivo Kelomees' article summing up the Estonian Media Art in 1998. Both of these articles reflect art works created with the technological advances of their respective times. |
